Our Story
A Tempe landmark since 1986.
For 40 years, Mill Towne Center has been part of the fabric of Tempe.
Built in 1986 at Mill Avenue and Baseline Road, the center has become a familiar home for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and generations of neighbors. It's also where some Tempe favorites began—the original Someburros, Tom's BBQ, and U.S. Egg in Arizona all got their start here.
For more than 20 years, Mill Towne Center has remained under the stewardship of its current owner, continuing a legacy of supporting the independent businesses that give the center its character.
Its roots run deep enough that documents from Mill Towne Center's original planning and development are preserved by the Tempe History Museum.
Today, we're building on that history—bringing new businesses, experiences, and energy to a place that has been growing with Tempe since 1986.

The people behind Mill Towne
Meet our caretaker.
British-born artist and inventor Anthony “Tony” Matthews is the caretaker who looks after Mill Towne Center day to day, helping keep this place welcoming and ready for the businesses and neighbors who make it home.
His window graphics and patented glass film have appeared on more than 700 Southern California businesses. Signed limited-edition prints are available through his studio today.
